The really cool part about pony blankets is that they typically come in a lot of fun colors, like the
Weatherbeeta Pony Blankets
. This makes pony blankets a lot more fun than horse blankets!

Pony turnout blankets can be purchased in three different weights. A medium weight for cold weather, a heavy weight for extremely cold weather and a light weight for mildly cold weather or rain. Blankets are filled for warmth, but sheets are not.
The weight of your pony blanket depends on your climate and whether your pony is clipped or not. Obviously if they are clipped, you need to use heavier blankets, because they don’t have as much hair to protect them from the cold. Your pony’s age and health are also a factor. You can slip your hand in between your pony and the blanket and check to see if he feels warm, hot or cold and then adjust your blanketing accordingly. Blanket manufacturers also include recommendations in their sales information to help you.
Turnout blankets are used while a pony is turned out and stable blankets are used while they are in their stall. This is because turnout blankets are waterproof , whereas stable blankets are not.
Pony blankets are also manufactured and sold in different denier, which refers to how heavy the fiber in the construction is. It is similar to the threadcount in bed sheets. The higher the denier, the stronger the fiber. A higher denier is better for ponies that might have a tendency to tear their sheets more often.
